About This Quote
Healing doesn't mean the damage never existed. It means it no longer controls our lives. The idea here is that every time we experience a trauma, we accept it as something that is part of our life. We can’t forget about it or get over it, but we can learn to live with it and accept that this is part of who we are.
It may be difficult to handle in the moment, but it becomes easier in time. Sometimes, when we have a big problem, we have a tendency to want to solve it right away. Most of us can't do that, though, because solving a problem in a short period of time just leads to another problem that needs to be solved shortly after.
In other words, when you try to fix one problem too quickly, you create more problems for yourself down the road. But if you take your time and deal with one issue at a time, you can do so without creating any additional problems for yourself later on.
